ASHMARCH

Fight Caves & TzTok-Jad

63 waves, Jad's prayer-switching animation tells, and why the wave-50 shortcut is harder than it looks.

The Fight Caves is a solo, wave-based minigame beneath TzHaar City, and it ends with TzTok-Jad — combat level 702 with 250 hitpoints, and still the most feared fight in 2006 RuneScape. Clear all 63 waves and the Fire Cape is yours.

Wave 50Wave 509Shorter, but Jad attacks around 30% faster

The wave-50 mode is not the easy option it looks like. It skips fifty waves of attrition, but it gives Jad nine healers instead of four and speeds his attacks up by roughly 30% — so it trades a long fight you can plan for a short one you cannot.

Jad

Watch the animation, not the projectile. If he rears back on his hind legs, pray Protect from Magic. If he slams a front foot down, pray Protect from Missiles. Switch on every single attack — one missed switch is most of your health bar.

Partway through the fight Jad calls for healers — four on the authentic run, nine on the wave-50 shortcut. They will heal him faster than you can damage him, so they have to be pulled off and killed, and they have to be killed while you are still switching prayers correctly. That overlap is what ends most attempts.

Defeating Jad rewards the Fire Cape, the best melee cape in the game, and the authentic full run also awards the Jad pet.
